Screen Concerts

Great cinema for eyes and ears

In collaboration with the Förderverein Filmkultur Bonn e.V., our series of screen concerts presents music that bridges the gap between the visual arts and film.

  • Mykyta Sierov, oboe
  • Richard Siedhoff, piano

After years in the city, young Willie McKay returns to his rural home in the American South: the scene of a bitter family feud. When Willie, unaware of the situation, falls in love with the daughter of his mortal enemy, the only thing protecting him is the law of hospitality.

Through a masterfully balanced interplay of comedy, romantic landscape and subtle social satire, the film stands as a milestone in film history. The spectacular location shots, such as a ludicrous train journey through the wilderness, are still regarded today as an outstanding example of cinematic engineering. With his trademark moments of surprise and subtle slapstick humour, Buster Keaton has the audience laughing and marvelling!

The silent film musicians Mykyta Sierov on the oboe and Richard Siedhoff on the grand piano bring this brilliant Buster Keaton film to life with their extraordinary live accompaniment, ensuring a guaranteed unforgettable evening in the superb acoustics of the Chamber Music Hall.
